Set Google toolbar to search UK Groups?

The new Google groups sucks, but I noticed that the UK groups search hasn't
changed. Is there a way to set the google toolbar to use this search
engine? Thanks.

I'm just wondering, what's wrong with the new Google groups search? It
doesn't seem all that different to me, and it makes it easier to sign in and
stuff. Am I missing something?

For one, it practices censorship.

When you say "the new Google groups search", are you talking about
groups.google.com, or the groups beta system?

Anyhow, when I test groups.google.com by using the advanced search page
http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search?hl=en
and I put Susan Bugher in the author field, I get a list of results, the first item is:

{PL} Proposed Pricelessware 2004 CD
Susan, My advice would be to consider carefully the risk for misuse of this
initiative by malevolent people. What if some malicious ...
alt.comp.freeware - Jan 28, 12:21 pm by Susan Bugher - 133 messages - 33 authors

As we can see the arrows in front of the lines are missing,
so it looks like Susan is talking to herself.

Imagine heated debates between enemies, then they will seem to have each others
views, if they start their messages with a quote from the opponent.

All the nazis will sound like jews, and all the jews will sound like nazis, in the
result lists from groups.google.com
I can imagine how happy people will be when they
discover this gross misrepresentation of their views.

One of its many problems is that you can no longer search by
Message-ID effectively. You can put a MID in on the advanced search
page, but it will only take you to the thread, not to the specific
post.

And these results are shown with the beta interface, no? The page
that results for me when I do exactly what you describe is

http://groups-beta.google.com/groups?safe=images&as_uauthors=Susan Bugher&lr=&hl=en

Yeah, same problem there, obviously.

It gets very strange when looking at such listings in heated discussions,
like between atheists and theists, pro-abortion and anti-abortion,
libertarians versus socialists, etc..

Everybody who follow the usenet convention of starting the message with a
quote will look like they have totally opposite views from what they
really write.

Google probably remove the quote arrows to make the text more readable
for people who do not know how to interpret the arrows, but that means
they change the messages in a very serious way, attributing lines of text
to the wrong person.
