"set as homepage" option in "internet options" is not accesible for some reason

I visited some chinese site few weeks ago, and somehow it
made itself my "home page" and made the option, "set as
home page" in (internet options), on the tools menu, go
grey. I cant even type anything in it, nor press any
buttons on that section of the internet options. Am I
hacked?

First eliminate any scumware.
See

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
Make sure CWShredder is among the things you try.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

Hi Jason
there is a registry entry that disables users from modifying the homepage.
that site that made its home page had turned on this registry setting and so you are not able to change it
you can fix this by adding another registry enty

here is how you do it

1. create a text file with the name "HKLM_Undo_HomePage.reg
with the following text in it
-------------------------
REGEDIT

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel
"HomePage"=dword:0000000
-------------------------

( just the 4 lines excluding the --------

save the file, then right click on the file and choose merge. this should hopefully solve your problem
