Trying to change the Homepage, when I go to Tool/Internet Options in
IE6, I get the message:

"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this
computer. Please contact your System Administrator."

I tried:

Control Panel/Internet Options/Homepage,

but the home page area was greyed out.

I had Spybot, Spywareblaster and Spy Guard installed prior
to the loss of the homepage function and uninstalled them when it
occured, but this made no difference. I have since re-installed them and
that has made no difference either.

I suspect the loss may have been either been due to the installation of
Service Pack 2 or the download of a Macromedia Flash item.

I am at a loss as to how to resolve it short of re-installing the Xp O/S!!!!

Can any one please help.

Thanks

Hi,
First, open Spybot in Advanced mode and check the Immunize settings. You may
have placed this restriction inadvertently.

If not ... go to Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Scroll down to
"Various Registry Fixes."

Next (same page) check for parasites and other malware which may have caused
this, if Spybot didn't.

Hi Don,

Thanks for that. I managed to download a copy of Adware SE and tan this
on the computer and the homepage was restored. It was obviously a piece
of Mal-ware which had fouled up IE
