i am getting this messages whenever i try to run services under services in administrative tools
when i try to run windows installer servic
Microsoft Management Console
could not start windows installer service on local computer
error 5: access is denied
(because windows installer isnt running i could'nt install programs that require windows installer. when i try to install the latest windows installer i get this message

the specified service already exists
when i try to run net logon servic
Microsoft Management Console
windows could not start the net logon on local computer.for more information, review the system event log.if this is a non-microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 3095
when i try to run performance logs and alert
Microsoft Management Console
windows could not start the performance logs and alerts on local computer.for more information, review the system event log.if this is a non-microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 2003

i fixed this error by booting from win2000 cd and selecting repair>r>fast repair.
