Services.Exe Takes 100% CPU Utilization on Net Change

L

LoosingMyMind

Any network layer change causes Services.exe to go
berzerk, taking 90 to 100% of CPU utilization for up to 10
minutes before returning to normal.

Any change to TCP/IP network layer or above will do it-
hot-swapping PCMCIA NICs, inserting PCMCIA NIC, Release,
Renew IP address, add IP address, change DSN server, Flush
DNS, change routing table, even save HOSTS file.

Tried scouring network config & rebuilding, tried re-
installing Windows (went from W2K Server to W2K Pro in the
doing), downgrading from SP4 to SP3, all to no avail.

I can't seem to find anything in the KB, either.

HELP!!! It's driving me CRAZY!!!

Anyone?

Thanks.

You should not have downgraded to SP3. Install SP4 again and also make sure
that the ms03-039 patch is installed. Scan for viruses.
