Hi
Just thought I'd share a bit of knowledge.
We had a Win2K Pro, SP4 that was behaving very sluggishly. Task
Manager showed Services.exe was hogging 100% CPU.
By running services.msc and viewing the list of services, I noted that
Event Log's status was shown as "Starting".
Suspecting a corrupt log file I carried out the following steps:
1. Set EventLog service to Disabled
2. Restarted the machine
3. Renamed *.evt in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG
4. Set EventLog service to Automatic
5. Restarted the machine
All is now OK - machine is happy and so am I.
Hope this helps somebody, somewhere, sometime
Thanks
