So whats the deal.
It went to install...archived all the old files, installed the new ones,
Then an ACCESS DENIED

Then had to uninstall all the new ones and reinstall the old one, so I
guess I don't get SP3 ??

Any Ideas?
Thanks

It is officially out yet and as such is unfinished. Don't you read the
posts here?

Sorry, that should have read 'It's NOT officially out yet'.

John.

They did not"send it"to you..........unless you did something to make
Windows Update see the SP3 RC2.
I use Windows Update and I do not see any SP3 RC2.
IF I run the script from Microsoft that allows Windows Update to"see"the SP3
then I would be able to download it IF I wanted.
It's not there to see in windows update unless windows update settings are
changed by you.

SOME people did - not all. And they did nothing special to make it
happen. That is not news.

It took me just over an hour for the complete install on my XP2 Home with no
errors. Everything now is working as it was. It even appears to have
slightly increased the overall speed of the system although I have no way of
proving that.

So, Then why did Microsoft send it to me as one of their UPDATE's
to be installed?

Two guesses:

- You didn't get offered Microsoft Windows XP SP3 (you may have been offered
SP3 for something - but maybe not for Windows XP.) Do you have Office 2003
or Office XP (2002)? Both of those products have SP3's and you would not be
the first to have thought they were getting Windows XP SP3 when one of those
two popped up.

- You have the advanced option turned on for
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ that states...

"Show beta products and related updates

Microsoft Update can offer you pre-released "beta" versions of
products as they become available.

NOTE: Use beta software at your own risk; it is intended for
testing and evaluation purposes only. Do not install beta software
on your primary computer or production environment."

However - I can pretty much negate the second option - it does not offer
Windows XP SP3 AFAIK <- but I needed two things. ;-)

If *you* weren't so quick to admonish someone, you probably would have
gotten the post correct the first time. People have other things to do
sometimes other than read all the threads here! You don't know that person's
life situation.

XP SP3 was made available to those on their mailing list. If for example you
are an IT manager
and on MS mailing list it was made available. There are warnings however. It
is suggested it be installed on
a test computer.
