Service packs

please please please help, I can't instal service pack 1
as it has been discontinued, although my comp is running
microsoft vm and microsofts website says to instal pack
1 ?
Does anyone know if it is safe for me to instal service
pack 1a instead? By the way I don't understand what
microsoft vm is so I cant work it out for myself.

Sharon,you sure hang here a lot. 1 is first 1a is 2nd,1a
has 1 plus extra in it.VM is valu microsoft.......it's
the cheaper virsion of XP.

WOW this is close but anon is stupid,VM is Microsoft
virtual machine,You can load 1a,it is 1 that has been
updated from 1.If you don't understand vm don't
worry,you'll not need to know.Load 1a and be happy.
 
Well the only suggestion I can come up with at the moment I am typing this is for you to set up Remote Desktop Assistance with another XP user who has already downloaded SP1..

In this way, they could install it for you from their PC onto yours ( unless I am mistaken

Where did you get that?
Not true at all.
VM = Virtual Machine as in Microsoft Virtual Machine.
 
SP1 or SP1a will work for you.
If an application says it needs SP1, either Sp1 or SP1a will work just
as well.

The only difference between the two is Microsoft Virtual Machine was
removed from SP1a to comply with court action:
