Norm--
Two things are pretty clear. The first is what's in SP1 and it's not the
answer to your problems although it does have Win RE with its tools
including Startup Repair that will be available for everyone--and the second
is that you haven't given us anything to work with and we might be able to
turn things around dramatically. While I find much to criticize in Vista, I
find a good deal of very careful work excellent work the more you drill into
it (much never appreciated by the average user).
I understand your frustration--many of us have little glitches that can
frustrate the hell out of us and consume time--but I'm willing to bet that
if you got specific for us, we could whip your Vista into remarkably good
shape very quickly.
This afternoon WMP wouldn't play music; I didn't blame Vista or WMP or spend
a lot of time searching for errors in Event Viewer--I just said "it's
software--it's not perfect and rebooted and having used Vista since July 05,
I have only seen that happen once.
I would challenge you to be very specific and tell us every last one of your
problems with Vista, and we can fix them fast. There is some great talent
on this group, but you have to give them specifics to work with and your
overall conclusion that Vista is so bad you want to format and sub XP for it
is just robbing yourself of some of the excellent features that work
remarkably well in Vista. I'm far from a fanboy, but with all respect I
know that we can turn Vista around for you. But you have to give us
problems to work with.
If I were to email you SP1 now, it would not be the cure for what ails Norm
and Vista. But if you would tell us your problems in a specific list, we
can make them go away.
