In performing the upgrade to SP4,I chose the option
to "archive" the files. This would allow me to unistall
SP4 and return to the previous version, if I had problems.
The installation went fine, and I no longer need the
previous files archived. What is the recommended procedure
to get rid of these unnecessary files that are taking
precious space in a notebook hard disk ?

In your root directory (C:\WINNT by default), there will
be 5 or so hidden folders named $NTUninstall... and one
named $NTServicePackUninstall. These are the backups that
the installer created. I would assume you can delete them,
but I'm not certain that all of them are unnecessary if
you don't plan to revert. You may want to wait for
confirmation from someone else.
