Hi folks,

A couple of weeks ago, I asked if anyone knew the correct registry settings to
get audio CDs to autoplay, but not data CDs to autorun. This was how my
desktop W2K system was originally set up (using TweakUI) but it has recently
stopped doing this. It'll either do both autoplay & autorun or neither. At
the time, I was unsure if the new behaviour was caused by installing SP4 or by
replacing a CD-RW drive with a DVD-RW.

I also have a laptop running W2K. It's primarily used as part of a navigation
system and rarely gets used for anything else. Autoplay / autorun was set up
on this m/c identically to the desktop and it also used to work. Since
installing SP4 on the laptop, it won't work there either. This points a large
finger at SP4 causing the new behaviour. Anyone (probably from MS) got any
ideas why SP4 would do this?

TIA

a surefire way of discerning the cause of the
aforementioned loss of functionality would be to uninstall
the service pack, of course this is assuming you chose to
have that option available to you when you initiated the
install of the service pack in the first place

Might do that over the weekend. I've got a Ghost image of the system
immediately before installing the SP and I can take another one of it 'as is'
before doing the restore.

Yup, it's SP4. I just uninstalled it and the functionality returned.

Come on someone from MS. What's causing this? There's other stuff in SP4
that I want. This is just **** annoying!
