Service Pack 2

I first asked this question months ago when I first installed Windows XP
Service Pack 2. I still have not resolved the problem.

My Symantec's Norton System Works 2004 programs: Antivirus 2004, Internet
Security, and Password Manager are prevented from doing their automatic
Internet updates due to being blocked by Service Pack 2 (this explanation
comes up when details are asked for in "Why did updates not install"). I
have done everything I can think of including un-installing and re-installing
Service Pack 2 and Norton Utilities/Antivirus and in reverse order. Nothing
works and I still am unable to download updates that I have a paid
subscription fee to Symantec to be able to do. I have two other PC's running
Windows XP with the same Norton software and Service Pack 2 installed that
work fine, allowing these same Norton Utilities programs to update.

I have asked Symantec and they say it is a problem being caused by the
Windows' Service Pack 2 and I should ask Microsoft.

So again I ask, has anyone else seen this same typeproblem and if so, does
anyone out there have any suggestions on how to correct this problem ?

Go back to Symantec and suggest that if their product is supposed to be
compatible with XP, then they should be the ones to support its installation.

Microsoft is not responsible for tech support to other manufacturer's
products.

If symantec won't help then ask them to send a refund for their wretched
product that doesn't work.

Plain and simple.

I have many customers running Norton 2004 and XP SP2. While Norton is not my
first choice it does work with SP2. There is something else causing the
problem. The most common cause of not being able to do updates with Norton
is a virus has modified Norton. Try an online virus scan and see if you are
infected with a virus.

Is a good one. There are others equally as good.

If you are virus free then it may a problem with Norton Live Update. The
following link has a procedure to reinstall the latest version of Live
Update.
