I have installed sp2 and I use my own firewall protection. I have unchecked
the buttons about not notifying me and checked the one about using my own
firewall, however every time I boot up my system there is that stupid
security center telling me my computer is at risk because I may not have a
firewall installed and the boxes I've unchecked/checked have reset
themselves. Is there any way to get the security center to do what I'm
telling it to do and leave me alone about my firewall protection? I use
zone alarm and have no desire to switch to Microsoft's firewall or any
others.

Open your Control Panel, then double-click the Security Center icon.
In the left side, click on the link titled: "Change the way Security Center
alerts me". Next, uncheck the Firewall Alert Setting, then click OK.

Yes, I have done that over and over and over every time it shows up which is
every time I boot my computer. As I said, it resets itself. I need to know
how to get it to not reset itself.
thanks.

I use Zonealarm 4 pro and I had exactly the same problem.
I disabled the Security Centre Service. That stops the repeated warnings.
I understand that the problem does not occur if you use the latest version
of Zonealarm (5)

that's great, could you possibly tell me how to disable security center?
and I have downloaded the latest version of zonealarm, although I do not use
pro.

You need to find Administrative Tools, location depends on how you have XP
configured.
I suggest that you use Help and Support to find it if you are not sure.
From there you need to navigate to the Computer Management icon and double
click to open it.
Find Services and Applications at the bottom of the 'tree' and expand by
clicking on the cross at the left of the text..
Services is the first item on the expanded tree. Click it to display the
services in the right hand pane.
The services are listed in alpha order so scroll down until you find
Security Centre.
Click on the service to highlight it then right click and select properties.
A new window is displayed.
Half way down the window is a drop down selection box that gives the options
Automatic, Manual or Disabled.
It should be displaying as Automatic and you need to select disabled and
then click the apply button at the bottom right of the window.. That will
stop the service starting when the system is booted in future. To stop it in
the current session click the Stop button just below the drop down option
box.
That should fix it.

As far as I am aware XP SP2 Security Centre only recognises version 5 of
Zonealarm Pro.

Hope that helps.
