Service Pack 1a

I've downloaded & installed Microsoft's Service Pack 1a
for XP. It downloads OK, but after installation & reboot,
everything is gone; i.e., no icons, no start button -
nothing but a blank screen. I've done this twice and
ended up both times having to restart in safe mode &
uninstall it. I'm not anxious to spend $50-100 to talk to
Microsoft about this, and I'm hoping someone has a
suggestion. My Windows XP is a legal upgrade to the
Windows ME operating system that came with my computer.

Install the fix, then reboot your computer.
