service pack 1

when i try to install service pack 1 i get error
message "cryptographic reporting not installed" ialso
don't seem to have any help and support files installed.
This seems to have happened since i rebooted my computer.
please don't say i have to reboot again as i struggle to
retain important files and programs

Rename the folder windows\system32\catroot2 and reboot. That will
generate a new, clean folder, and you can then delete the renamed one.

Then install SP1, and having done so get - only - Q817287 and install
it, which should now be OK. It is the cure for the problem: you
should then be able to carry on with other updates, and the problem
will not recur

Be sure you have the firewall enabled before going on line to get *any*
downloads
