Service Pack 1 Install wiped out some desktop folders

After installing SP1, I noticed that some folders had disappeared from my
desktop. A couple were folders of shortcuts (easily recreated), but one was a
folder of recently taken photos. I know I hadn't deleted it myself because my
recycle bin still contains some of the rejects I deleted from that folder, so
if I had deleted the folder itself it would also be in there. Ahen I went to
restore one of the rejects it told me the folder it came from no longer
existed.

I was hoping Vista had just moved the folder, but a file search could not
find it. And my weekly backup only copies my hard disk, which I guess does
not include desktop items?

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any way to retrieve these folders?

The back-up will most probably include files and folders of the desk-top
too.

Run a selective restore using your backup program and only select the items
you need back. You don't say what program you use but all the ones I have
seen will let you selectively restore.

Thanks to both of you. I did find the folders in my backup. It did not show
up till I checked the box that said "Include non-indexed, hidden and system
files". Then I found it and just dragged the folders to copy them back to the
desktop.

I am using the Vista backup utility, which worked very poorly when copying
to DVDs (it failed about every third time) but works quite well since I got
an external hard drive.

Thanks,
Eugene

You're welcome. Glad you got your folders back.
