Service Locator Records

We have a small Active Directory environment. Our DNS server is setup
to use standard text files (Type = Primary). One thing I noticed is
that we don't have any service locator records (SRV) in our zone file.
I believe this may be the root of some of the problems that have been
occuring. Is it possible to have windows re-build the zones files to
include the missing records.

I can provide any additional information if it's required to answer my
question.

thanks in advance,

Aaron

Without knowing anything about your configuration, it would be very helpful
if you were to provide an unedited ipconfig /all and the name of your AD DNS
domain name.

Things that will prevent the SRVs from registering:
1. Single label DNS domain name with SP4 installed.
2. Primary DNS Suffix is missing or spelled incorrectly not matching the AD
DNS Domain name.
3. AD DNS domain name, Primary DNS Suffix, and the zone name in DNS must all
match exactly.
4. Updates set to at least YES on the zone.
5. Use of your ISP's DNS in your IP properties. These must be removed
immeidately and only need to use the internal DNS server. This goes for
clients AND DCs. Configure a forwarder under your own DNS server for
efficient Internet resolution.

Post that information and I'm sure we can make a quick determination for
you.
