service.cnf

I get a front page error stating that the file service.cnf could not be
closed. I did not open the file and front page will now not publish. Help!!!!

Dear Ms. Anderson...
You are correct that the problem arises from a space issue on the server.
I checked into my control panel and found that my 43Mb site had eaten up the
full 300Mb I was allotted.
Now the question I posed to my hosting company: Is there something at
their end that requires resetting? OR Is there something inside Frontpage
that is not cleaning up after it publishes? Any help would be appreciated.
Aside: I would try a "Publish All Pages" run...except I do not have
enough free space if the process chokes mid-post.

Check to see if your host is storing the server log files associated with your hosting account
within or associated with your web space, as they can take up a lot of space over time.

Dear Thomas...
Thank you for your post. Yes, I have contacted my ISP to see if they have
access to the 250Mb of dead space that is clogging my website. Every stray
file and old sub-web I could find by opening the site directly using
Frontpage has been deleted...and I gained 7.4Mb. I used the hosting
company's control panel page to delete all log file - no change in free space.
When I receive a response from the hosting company, I'll post it here so it
can help others. Cheers!

I have an answer! Undelivered Email.
Now the long version:
My hosted site comes with 30 forwarding email addresses.
When the spam problem got out of hand, I deleted the
default email forwarding address (which worked to stop
the spam). It just piled up.
Solution: The hosting company provided a default address
that drops it right in the trash. In future, all mail
not specifically labeled according to my forwarding
entries will be deleted.
A refresh of my control panel shows 248Mb free. Hope
this can help someone else.

That is interesting that your host associates the mail storage space with the web space.
