I get two error messages in Outlook Express to the effect that the server
does not work.

Here they are:

1. There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was
rejected. Account: 'mail', Server: 'mail.adelphia.net', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR invalid user name or password.', Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

2. Outlook Express could not post your message. Subject 'PDF Creator',
Account: 'news.adelphia.net', Server: 'news.adelphia.net', Protocol: NNTP,
Server Response: '502 Access Denied via @adelphia.net auth server', Port:
119, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 502, Error Number: 0x800CCC17

Outlook Express is supposed to work. It is not. Can it be made to work
correctly? If so, how?

Thank you,

Barry Karas

PS I have Windows XP with SP2.

Is this a new account? Has it ever worked with OE? The adelphia.net
home page has a support link and you may find that the mail server was
changed from mail.adelphia.net to smtp.adelphia.net or another change.

It's also possible that the password is incorrect as stated, that you
entered the screen name rather than the complete email address, or your
firewall could be blocking access to the needed ports.

For the news problem, the following post suggested the news server
needed was: news1.news.adelphia.net

The problem is that Outlook Express is unable to login to the server. It
appears that OE is talking correctly to the server, otherwise you would
not get messages from the server. The conclusion is that you have are
giving the wrong login name and/or password.

The first message indicates that the password you supplied is invalid.
Apart from you maybe typing the password wrong, it may be possible that
you have Caps Lock on for letters or Num Lock NOT on if you use the
number pad. Or you have been given an invalid password by Adelphia. Try
confirming the password and account with them. Watch out for any zeros
and noughts, and ones and 'ells'. They are easy to confuse.

The second message is probably caused by too many invalid attempts to
connect. The server has put your account 'on hold' because the
connection was tried unsuccessfully too many times. Again, you need to
contact Adelphia.

Cheers,

Cliff

Thank you. It is refreshing to get a "translation" of those messages into
plain English.

I NEVER needed a password beforenow. Could it be that Adelphia gave a
password to me -- and did not tell me of the password or its use?

Thanks again,

Barry Karas
