Server IP Address

I have a Windows 2000 Server that is running DHCP with a scope of 192.168.20.-40. The server itself is receiving its own IP address dynamically from a DHCP server running in an ethernet router with a scope of 192.168.1.100-120. Active directory and DNS forwarding are a mess. IP gateway is 192.168.1.1. Can I statically assign 192.168.1.2 to the server without causing any other configuration problems within 2000 server, and then properly configure active directory and DNS?? Note, for unknown reasons this server is also running MS SQL Server. I wll stop the DHCP server in the router.

If 192.168.1.2 is free then you can use it.

Yes! Your DHCP server should have a statically assigned IP address. If
192.168.1.2 is not in use you can certainly use it.
