Server IP Address Anomaly

Windows 2000. Ineternet Connection Window when active
shows (in details) an IP address (172.etc) which is the
DNS address of iana.org.

Microsoft tell me this should show the ISP IP address
(OneTel 21.etc).

Neither Microsoft nor OneTel can explain this.

Can any of you?
 
If the IP adress is of a range from 172.16.0.0 to
172.31.255.255 then it is a private IP address, you would
see this if you are behind a NAT firewall or router. If
this is the only machine with a 172 address that would be
a problem, if all machines an the network have that
address you are fine. If not make sure that adapter is set
to obtain automatically. hOPE THIS ANSWERS YOUR QUESTION.
