I just tried to publish and upload photos. Part went up but then got error
message "Server Error - cannot close file "service.cnf". This happened
after I mistakenly tried to upload a jpg with too long a file name and with
spaces. DUH on me. I had edited it and gave it another name but picked the
wrong one in the file list.... I tried closing FP 2000 and then publishing
again and still get same error.. What to do? .... Millie

1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
Usually in C:\WINDOWS\Temp and %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
- in FP 2003 you need to look in the super hidden folder
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\FrontPageTempDir
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
3) Open your online site in FP and run a Tools Recalculate hyperlinks
4) Open your local site in FP and run a Tools Recalculate hyperlinks
Try publishing again
If you still get same error have your host delete the service.cnf file

Thanks. My problem was that I had unknowingly gone over the space limit on
the server because old files and jpgs had not been deleted as I thought FP
was doing. I edited online and deleted a lot of VERY OLD files which I did
not realize were still there. Now I posted another subject as to why FP was
not deleting those when "it" asked me if I wanted to (since they were no
longer on web on local machine)..... Millie

Hi Millie,

Open the web at the server using FP then delete the file that are no
longer required; retry the publish from your local machine.

File Open Web / Site and enter you url as http://www.yoursitename.com/
