Server Error:Cannot open file "index.htm" for writing

This seems to be a common error im always getting and seeing it all over the
net with no solutions. even the webhost never seems to know why.

index.htm is just an example, the filename i get the errors with is always
changing. ill be publishing my whole site, or uploading a few files, or even
just one file and ill get this error which stops me from uploading. Why is
this and how do i fix it? Ive triend removing and reinstalling the
extensions as well as wiping the site clean and starting over and no go.
help! :(

Sounds like a permissions error on the server, especially since you say that
you've wiped the site clean and continue to get the error. You should post
the exact error you are receiving here so others can help you.

What's the URL to the site.
HOW are you publishing? From the wording of your message it sounds like you
are using FTP - if you mix FTP with FP Publish via http method you're gonna
break the FP extensions.

"Server Error:Cannot open file "index.htm" for writing" is the exact error im
getting with the exception of the file. Whatever file im uploading via FP
(with extensions) is the one i get the error with. If uploading multiple
files, it just picks a file at random to say is an error.

Ive been using FP for years and know how to use it and not to combine FTP
and FP so I know its nothing like that or anything that I did

There are two causes for this that I can think of:

1) You have run out of space on the server - either the server hard disc
is full, or your account is full, or the account has the wrong space
allocated to it.

2) Permissions on the server are incorrect. Run a Server Health check from
the extensions administration pages. Either your host must do this, or
open the remote web in FrontPage and use
Tools->Server->Administration Home, then look for server health.
If this option is not available, your host must run Server Health.
