_vti_cnf folder, yet they seem to be there when I look in the folders in FTP.
I cannot get the navigation bars up or the photogallery..it worked before
then suddenly all these problems. The service 1&1 says that it is FrontPage
and that it does this and because of these MS Extensions it doesn't always
work right...anyone have any idea. This is the second time I have made this
page, I DO NOT want to start over again :(! Thanks

If you are using FTP to publish to a web with FP extensions ftp will break the extensions, you should be publishing via File | Publish Web/Site http://yourweb.com

Have the host repair the extensions and Publish as above.

Sorry I am retarded..I went through FP publishing tool. I had them try to fix
the extensions. I turned them off and then on again in an hour. I tried
everything possible including dragging the files to the ftp folder. I
deleted everything and cleaned out everything and still can't get that folder
to go in...:(...I am rather tortured!

the vti files don't publish between machines.
and i'm not an expert on the extensions (thats what the vti files are) .

If your local copy is good and working then re-Publish to the server..Publish all...sometimes a Recalculate Hyperlinks is good mojo first.

is there a way to auto fix/detect errors? I used a program once that was
able to check the entire site before publishing and it found and fixed the
errors. Can you do that with FP? By the way, thanks all...

What type of errors?

The FP client app will not check the extensions, this has to be done by the server Admin.

Broken links..thos vti problems. generally any problems with the page and the

fixes problems, or tells you how...i can never get the answers I need from
the help??!! Thanks

Broken Links : Reports | Broken hyperlinks,

If you are having problem on the remote server, then your host has to fix extensions/permissions
related issues.

You can try open the site directly in FP on the remote server, (if it has the FP extensions), and
run Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks.

If your site was working correctly and published correct at some point, and if you made no changes
to your local configuration, such install software, Windows or Office updates, then the problem is
with your web host.

I have been getting the same error message when I have
tried to get the website to my own machine. I know the
person who maintained the site before me was able to
publish to her machine and then to live website. When I
took it over from her, I have been unable to put on my
machine at all..and have been working on live site for the
few changes/addtions. OH! and when I try to publish, the
error message is in conjuction with old files created in
2001 that are gifs. they have the same name and it won't
let me rename them..which is when I then get that error
message. Is this something I need to have resolved by the
host server? or is it something I can fix on FP??

thanks in advance for your help. I am learning a TON from
this newsgroup. VERY appreciative of your patience and
your knowledge yu extend to those of us who are new to
this stuff!

If the live/remote site is on Unix/Linux, it sees image.gif and Image.gif as two separate files,
whereas when you try to publish back to your Windows machine, it sees image.gif and Image.gif as one
and the same file. To solve this problem, you need to rename one of the files on the live/remote
site before you can publish to your machine.

I jsut got an email from the previous webmaster of my
chorus webstie. She took a look at the problem files and
siad they appeared to be host files so I guess I will have
to now await a response email from them. I sent a plea for
HELP! to their support site.
thanks for all your help with this in the meantime. I have
learned a great deal from this wonderful forum/newsgroup!!!

If the files are host files, ask the host to convert the folder to a subweb or move them out of the
web root.
