server configuration

My IT department states that my Access database must reside on an "Optimized"
server to properly function in a mult-user environment to prevent mis-synchs
on saving data.

I will be setting up the same database for a sister company, and I want
their server to be configured the same way. My question is, how do I explain
this properly, because up til now, IT is not understanding the requirement of
"optimizing" the server.

Ask your IT department to explain Optimized server. This sounds like
it might be some group of servers where the raw data is copied among
themselves so that any one of the servers can fail and the others
instantly carry the load.

In any event this sounds rather wield and just using a server should
be just fine.

Thanks Tony for the reply. The IT department uses a lot of voodoo which
explains why they talk in circles and never make sense.

Ah, the baffle with bullsh*t department. Gotcha.

This is why so many departments just do an end run around IT and set
up their own servers to administer as they see fit. If IT just
served the users' needs, they'd be able to control the
infrastructure in the manner they want without having users
constantly trying to circumvent them.

staff.
