server busy window

i keep getting a server busy window popping out out of nowhere all the time. its really annoying. it says something about something being busy, and the tabs say switch to, retry, and cancel. when i click switch to, it sometimes goes away and just opens my start menu, but sometimes i click it infinity times and it never goes away. the retry button makes it go away when clicked sometimes, but it also sometimes never goes away. cancel is blocked out or something but its there. this window has made me restart my computer several times, and doesnt let me continue what im doing, someone please help. thank you in advance.

I have Win98SE and kept getting that message, as follows:

When trying to "Open" (open file) in a non-Microsoft word
processing application and also when trying to create a
pdf document in the full version of Adobe 4, I got:

"Server Busy.
This action cannot be completed because the other program
is busy. Click the appropriate button on the task bar to
activate the busy program and correct the problem."
"Retry" "Cancel"". ("Cancel" grayed out.)

It was a nonsense message which could be reproduced even
in "Clean Boot - Selective Startup" where there were
no applications loaded in the Systems Tray. Also the
message was headed "Server Busy", but my PC is stand-alone.

The issue was r_esolved when (for other issues) I
uninstalled Symantec's "Norton Internet Security 2003" and
replaced it with an earlier version of the sam_e product.

Try the workaround that I used before the issue was
resolved: When the 'Server Busy' message appears - wait
until the extra noise of hard drive activity has cleared
away and ONLY THEN click the "Retry" button on the
message. In my circumstances, doing that resulted in the
messag_e leaving the screen and the attempted activity
completed successfully.

Hope that helps (even though I appreciate your system is
Win XP and not Win98SE).

ok, my problem is that it pops up for no reason. i still dont understand why, atleast in your case you were trying to do something. i dont understand why. and as for the norton internet security, i dont think i have anything that has the name norton on it. thanks alot for the help though, i appreciate it.
