When I open Outlook 2000 I get the following error message.

"An extension failed to initialize. Can't open file: C . The file may not
exist, you may not have permission to open it, or it may be open in another
program. Right-click the folder that contains the file, and then click
Properties to check your permissions for the folder. You don't have
appropriate permission to perform this operation." Now this is
weird! It tells me what to do and then tells me I don't have permission to
perform this operation???? I'm the only one on the computer! HOW DO I
SOLVE THIS PROBLEM?

I am given a choice of one. I can click on OK. When I do then I get: "An
error occurred in the shortcuts file (.fav). Outlook will recreate the
default folder shortcuts. The folder shortcuts file is not valid" WOW!!!
Talk about gobble-d-gook!

When I click on OK again I get: "Outlook could not save the updated folder
shortcut information. Check to make sure there is sufficient disk space and
that the file "C: :\Documents and Settings\Jack\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Ou.," is not marked read-only. Another attempt to save will
be made after the next change or when you exit. You don't have appropriate
permission to perform this operation." THIS IS REALLY GETTING FRUSTRATING.

I click on OK and my mail comes in.

When I close Outlook 2000 I get, "Outlook could not save the updated folder
shortcut information. Check to make sure there is sufficient disk space and
that the file "C:\Documents and Settings\Jack\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Ou.," is not marked read-only. All changes made during this
session will be lost. You don't have appropriate permission to perform this
operation." THERE'S THAT DAMN MESSAGE AGAIN!! IF I CAN'T CHANGE IT HOW CAN
I SOLVE THE PROBLEM?

At this point I click on OK again and Outlook closes.

I NEED HELP!!! PLEASE

With Outlook closed, find and rename extend.dat to .old. (If using Windows
2000 or XP, ensure that you have searching hidden/system files turned on.)
