serious diplay driver problem

HI

I've just installed xp on an old pentium 2 system. I have a Matrox MGA G200 graphics card and have downloaded the xp driver for it but after I install the driver the screen freeze, breaks up and that's it. Then when I reboot xp says it's a problem with the card. When running in the normal VGA (?) mode the system is fine. Any ideas?

Was this the driver frm Matrox
http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/drivers/certified/home.cfm or the WinXp
driver?
