Most of the laptops do not come with serial port. I need serial port to
connect to the Console port on the Cisco router. Is there a way to purchase
an adapter to convert to serial port?

I just brought up GOOGLE and typed: external serial ports

maybe you should do the same. Only took me 5 seconds.

There are USB to serial port adapters, but check that they are Vista
compatible.

There are also PCMCIA and probably Expresscard adapters, if your laptop has
a PCMCIA or Expresscard slot.

What do you mean "there is no native support for Serial in Vista."?
Microsoft provides standard Serial Port drivers that happily let me use
the serial ports on my system. If you mean there is no native support
for USB to serial port adapters, that's a different matter entirely...

ExpressCard. While there is no speed difference, (as the max speed of
Serial is far slower than either), USB > Serial adapters are not 100%
compatible with all Serial commands, while ExpressCards most probably are (I
know what PCI and PCIe Serial cards are, so ExpressCards would be as well).

So what is your point, exactly? That article is about using a serial or
infrared port as an incoming network connection using Routing and Remote
Access Service. It has nothing to do with serial ports in general, or
the ability to use / compatibility of USB to Serial adapters.
