Serial Device being recognized as a serial mouse

I am using a Garmin GPS on my serial port (COM 1). It is constantly being
recognized as a serial mouse and this is causing my Streets and Trips to
fail, I occassionally get the "blue-screen-of-death", and, on reboot, mouse
pointer is erratic and unontrollable.

I hear there's a fix so that Windows will not see it as a serial mouse but I
haven't had any luck finding it. From what I understand, it's supposed to be
an edit in the config.sys or boot.ini file. Can someone please shed some
light for me? All help is greatly appreciated.

I think this is the switch you are looking for to put into the boot.ini:

/NOSERIALMICE=[COMx | COMx,y,z...] - Disables serial mouse detection of the specified COM port(s).
Use this switch if you have a component other than a mouse attached to a serial port during the
startup sequence. If you use /NOSERIALMICE without specifying a COM port, serial mouse detection is
disabled on all COM ports

I found it at:
