Sent e-mails showing up in unread folder

We are currently running into an intermittent problem where e-mails a user
had sent months ago are suddenly appearing in the unread folder for the user.
The e-mails do not show a sender domain and are identical copies of the
original e-mail. These are not returned emails from the original receipient,
this appears to be more of a random pick-up from the sent items box. They
send to names and domains vary and it seems to be restricted to a single user
at this point so I don't feel this is a network issue. Any ideas?

Thanks

I have confirmed that all the e-mails that are coming up as unread are in the
users sent items folder and were created by the user. It is almost as if
Outlook is flagging an item created by this user as unread which makes no
sense because the user created it in the first place.

No, she has no rules set up on the sent items folder at all except for the
default setting in outlook for the search folder. Not all e-mails to a
specific recipient get flagged as unread and it happens anywhere from days to
months after the original e-mail has been sent. The domain being sent to
doesn't appear to be a factor either because she sends e-mials to multiple
users at the same domian and one may show up as unread months later. I am
reaching my wits end with this. We completely reset her user profile and
account to the same set-up as the other 50 users we have on the network and
she still runs into this problem at times. She easily sends out more than
1000 e-mails a month to a variety of domains and users and have 4 or 5 sent
items show-up two months later.

They are not being copied it appears that the status changes to unread on
sent items e-mail.
