sending word attachments marked as unsafe

Without explanation, recently my system changed settings, and I've found that
when I send word and excel attachments, they are now being labeled as unsafe
and are removed before the intended recepient can open them from my email. I
understand about .exe and .vbs ones being blocked, but why .doc and .xls?
What I've read on www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/getexe.asp doesn't seem to
apply here because they aren't executable files and the problem is in sending
them, not receiving them.
 
Outlook never removes files from outgoing messages. Maybe something else is at work?
