Outlook should warn be before I send unsafe attachments.

First, let me say how much I despise the fact that I can't choose to open
"potentially unsafe attachments" from Outlook and Outlook Express. I have
firewalls, and spam & virus protection at the server (my Internet host, not
Exchange) and on my local computer, so the chances that blocking an
attachment is going to help me is slim to none.

Now for my suggestion:
I would like for Outlook to warn me if the attachment I'm sending might be
rejected by my recipient. I understand that not everyone has the level of
protection from viruses that I do, so it would be really helpful to warn me
if the extension of an attachment I'm sending is in the list of "unsafe
document types" that Outlook/OE use. Sometimes I forget and attach EXE's or
other types I shouldn't. Then I'm having to apologize and drag my users
through an embarassing "Oops, I forgot" dialog.

while you are entitled to your opinions, I do not want other people using my
system to open "potentially unsafe attachments"

how would Outlook know that your recipent cannot open your attachment ?

if you are forgetfully about attaching the files that you want to send, suggest
you look for 3rd party applications to remind you

myThis is an old argument that I'm not going to drag this thread through.
Microsoft has acknowledged that blocking the attachments is not a popular
feature by many Outlook/OE users. I guess I shouldn't have opened my
discussion with the comment that I did.

As for my suggestion, I was just saying that Outlook and OE have a default
list of file types that will be rejected and (to the best of my knowledge)
they cannot be changed unless you are using an Exchange server as your mail
server. It would be nice if Outlook/OE warned you if you were sending a
filetype that was in this default list. This provides some protection for
users who aren't using Outlook and OE also, because you are less likely to
send an unsafe attachment.

As for the third-party suggestion...I've never heard of anything that
provided this feature. If you know of anything please post it here.

If you are running as an admin, you can add what files to send without
triggering the built in security features
I am running OL on a standalone and I can choose what files are allowed to be
sent
