Sending Messages from Outlook 2003

My Outlook 2003 worked fine until Tuesday's automatic update. Since then I
have been able to receive messages normally, but sending messages eventually
times out and fails. My outgoing connection is OK, because I can send
messages from my Web-based outside e-mail account. This is a pretty serious
problem. How can I fix it?

Are you using a firewall or antispam or antivirus scanner to scan email?

Hi Diane,

Thanks for responding. As far as I know, I am not using anything beyond the
stock Microsoft stuff you get when you install the OS and an expired Norton
Anti-virus package. Besides, there is no problem with incoming mail. It is
only outgoing.

Doesn't prove a thing, since your PC isn't involved in any part of sending
mail that way (except, of course, to provide the web browser, but the web
browser isn't involved in the mail sending either).

If Norton Anti-Virus has expired, then uninstall it and install one of the
many fine free AV packages that are available, but make sure you do NOT
install the mail scanning feature of that AV package.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the tips, but I'm afraid I still have a problem. the Symantec
Anti-virus does not scan my outgoing mail. In the past year it has not choked
on a single one.

Brian,

I'd like to jump in on your thread. I have the first note in the DB from
12/10 and haven't received any additional updates that can help, so I'm
hoping that you can assist.

I have Outlook 2007 and performed an automatic update last Friday. I have
the same problem, I can't send any email from my Outlook accounts (2
addresses), but can send it via webmail from the same address. I deleted one
account in Outlook and added it back and have the same problem. My hotmail
account that I have in Outlook works (this is the 3rd email address I have &
I use Connector) and is the only account that will send from Outlook. My
Outlook has been flawless until the auto update. I use AVG antivirus, and
have for years. I have Vista installed, and use the MS tools for firewall

One final note: I have MS Access runtime installed for an application and
have received 2 or 3 requests for an additional auto update for Office 2003.
It seems that an update occurred last Friday for Office 2003 and this is
another. Could this be causing a conflict for me?

If I can't get help soon, then I'm going to reload Outlook.

Thanks, Mike

I'd back out the update, if possible, and see if that helps.

Brian,

I never did that, but I'm pretty savvy if you can point me to the steps to
do it. Where do I start?

Add or Remove Programs is where I'd start. You can also go to
update.microsoft.com and view your update history to see which updates
installed to make it easier to find them. You MIGHT also be able to use a
Restore Point.

Brian,

Thanks for the ideas. Next question: where do I look to find my Restore
Point?

Also, I've been checking, and there are now at least 6 posts in the last 3
days that have the same problem that they updated 2007 and now can't send
email.

I used a Restore Point previous to the Microsoft update and now my email
works correctly. There's a bug in the last update and it probably affects
2003 also because there's a number of posts with the same error message and
problem - can't send email from the POP3 account but can from the hotmail
account

I deleted all the updated from 12-12-2007, but that did not restore my
ability to send messages from Outlook. Then I tried reinstalling Outlook 2003
from an OEM CD. It reinstalled all right, but it still doesn't send and now
it doesn't receive either. Help!
