sending mail

I have a strange problem. If Outlook is launched by another application, the
new messages get stuck in Outbox instead of being sent right way. Outlook is
set to "send immediatly if connected". If I start Outlook itself, there is no
problem- my e-mail gets sent as soon as I hit "send". If the "new message"
box is launched by an external application, e.g. "mail:" link at a website or
Word, I hit "send" and the box closes but the new message doesn't get sent
and stays in Outbox. In order to send it, I have to start the main
application of Outlook.

As you've discovered, Outlook needs to be running in order to send mail...

Does that mean Outlook has to run all the time? I didn't have this problem
with Outlook Express! If OE is launched by another application, it sends the
mail and then closes itself.

As long as you want your mail to be sent, Outlook must be running. That's
what Jeff said.

I didn't have this problem with Outlook Express!

Different program, different behavior.

Actually, we do.

As you've discovered yourself, Outlook will not send messages when it's not
running. And Brian is right - Outlook and Outlook Express are completely
different programs, so (not surprisingly) they behave differently.
