sending from unknown smtp

When I travel I would like to be able to send from outlook, but I often do
not know the smtp settings where I am, so mail gets stuck in my outbox... is
there a way around this issue?.. any "auto detect"?

Ask your ISP if they permit you to send e-mail from a computer that doesn't
connect directly to their network. If they need an example, tell them you
are traveling and would like to know if you can connect to a hotel network,
public wi-fi (starbucks, airport), .etc and still be able to use your mail
client to send e-mail. If they support this, they should have steps on how
to configure your e-mail client on how to accomplish this. If they say no,
you could always go with GMail or some other provider that offers free
pop3/imap/smtp access.

thanks.. I will give them a call and see what they say. I thought there was
perhaps some setting in outlook. Stragely, one email I composed went off on
an unknown server/smtp from a wirelrss network, but another did not....
go figure

Understood. Each ISP handles this differently where some it is not
supported at all, some require that you check for mail before sending and
others just say that you have to authenticate to their SMTP server with your
POP3/IMAP credentials before sending. Hence it is easier to ask what they
support before adjusting your settings in Microsoft Outlook.
