Sending fails, but files go through multiple times - Outlook 2003

Hi guys,

I have a problem with Outlook 2003 (SP2). When I try to send a larger
attachment, lets say 1 or 2 MB I get a sending error and Outlook tries to
send the message again and again. The odd thing is, the message goes actually
through and the recipient gets the same mail lots of times. Sending a mail
without an attachment or with a small one, lets say 0.5MB works fine.

I have that problem at work on 3 computers and at home on one. Any ideas
what I can do?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Cheers,

Seb

Hi All,

I have recently migrated from Outlook Express to Outlook 2003 SP 2 and have
exactly the same problem as Seb.

Can anybody help?

Many thanks in advance!

Hi,
I have got another problem with Outlook 2003. When Itry to start it,
it starts with an error message and doesn't really start. So I can't
even get to deactivate Add-Ins or Add-Ons.
Is it an installation problem?
All other Office products work perfectly.
Can somebody help?
Greetings

Karl Klein

Hi Seb,

I have solved my problem and perhaos this will help you with yours!

My error message which was something to the effect of "Operation timed out
waiting for response from SMTP server".
My solution was to turn off scanning of outgoing (note - only outgoing) mail
by my antivirus system and that has solved the problem completely. I am using
Trend PC-cillin Internet Security 14.

Hope this helps.

Karl, as to your problem - sorry I can't even begin to help, I am a complete
novice myself! I would suggest however that you do a "new" post as your
problem may be missed because it is not the same as Seb's and mine.

Cheers Guys,

Bill

You should disable scanning of incoming mail as well. You will be no less
well-protected and you will eliminate a large source of client/server
communication problems.

I solved the problem, too, but without turning off the outgoing virus check.
It is a time out problem. Simply go into your e-mail account settings (tools
- email accounts - change your account - select it - change - more settings -
advanced - server timeouts) Put them up to the maximum of 10 minutes and your
problem is solved.

Have a nice day guys!

Scanning outgoing messages is such a waste of time. It can NEVER detect
anything, so why do it? Think about it. If your PC was infected with a
virus that your AV program could detect on outgoing mail, it would already
have detected it BEFORE you ever composed the message. If it's a virus that
your AV program couldn't detect before composing the message, then it
wouldn't be detectable on an outgoing message either.
