Sending E-Mail

Using Windows Vista Basic and Home Office I've come across two problems the
first is for some reason I am unable to send any e-mails as there is a
message that comes up that reads-

Logon to (e-mail address removed) verify password-I've typed in my password and
user name and get no joy.I've contacted BT the ISP but they're about as much
use as a ashtray on a motorbike.Because I cannot change my password because
the system won't recognize the old password I can't send any e-mails.I KNOW
THE PASSWORD AND USER NAE ARE CORRECT because they are the same for
everything else on the laptop and I can still use it. By the way I can send
e-mails as replies to one's rec'd?

Secondly-why can't I open Office docs in Vista [Home basic]When I try to I
get an error message telling me doc can't be found.

Any assistance appreciated

Some email servers insist that you enter your username with no spaces
and no CAPITAL LETTERS. Some insist that you follow it with the
part of your email address starting with @, and some insist that you
don't. Many insist that you use CAPITAL and lowercase letters in the
right places in your password. Many give unclear error messages if
they see anything wrong with your username or password.

If you get any error messages when trying to send mail, you're likely
to get more help if you right click on them and copy the entire error
messages to your next message.

Passwords are case sensitive.
There is no reason I can think of for your email UserName to be the same as
it is elsewhere on your computer. Some servers just want the part before
the @ and some want the complete email address.

What version of Office?
