Sending an HTML-formatted message in OE6

My current OE6 Mail Sending Format is HTML and has been for as long as I've
been using OE. During the past two months or so, when I attempt to send a
message, a message box pops up (the title bar indicates "Outlook Express")
and states that "You are sending this message as a rich-text (HTML)
message...", and goes on to state that some recipients prefer to receive
plain-text messages. The message box provides options to send the message
either as an HTML or plain text message.

It makes no difference whether the message I am attempting to send is a new
message, or a reply to a message, or a forwarded message. The message box
referred to above always pops up. Since I prefer to send most of my email
messages in HTML format, I find this message box quite annoying and would
like to know if there's any way to disable its appearance. I suspected that
it came about as a result of some recent Windows Critical Update that I
installed, but I haven't been able to trace which one, if indeed the cause
was a Critical Update.

I posted this query in the Outlook Express 6 newsgroup a few weeks ago but
unfortunately I haven't received any relevant replies. The replies that I
did receive chastised me for sending HTML-formatted messages instead of
plain text ones.

BTW, I checked with my ISP and was told that the message box referred to
above is not generated by them and as far as they knew it was one internally
generated by OE although they could not explain its occurrence or how to
disable its appearance. I mention this because one computer technician told
me he suspected that this was an ISP issue.

Thanks for any help.

The only way I get this message is if that individual's entry in the address
book has a check in the box for 'Send messages in plain text only'. This is
**not** the same as the global OE mail sending format, but indicated on an
individual per-address book entry. Double-click the name in your address
book | Name Tab and look for the checkbox. If this is not the problem, then
sorry, I don't know.

Many, many thanks. That was indeed the problem. I discovered that ALL my
e-mail contacts have the "Send E-Mail using plain text only." box checked.
How this came about I don't know. I was even unaware of the existence of
this checkbox. I'm certain I never manually checked the box either on an
individual or global basis. Do you happen to know if this checkbox has
always been a feature of OE6? Or was it a result of a fairly recent Critical
Update that also entered the checkmark as the default? Thanks again.

It's always been a feature of OE6. It was a feature in older
versions too, although I can't remember whether it's always been
there.
