Sending 2 of 2

I'm currently using Outlook 2007, but this was happening in 2003 as well:

When I send an email the status bar at the bottom of Outlook always shows me
to be sending 1 more email what is actually in the Outbox. In other words,
if I'm sending 1 email and the outbox has only 1 email in it, the status bar
at the bottom says 'Sending 1 of 2'.

Why?

Could be there's a read receipt that's sending - those don't display in the
Outbox.
