Send/receive won't stop

In some cases when I hit send/receive, it frantically keeps sending/receiving
hundreds of times and won't stop. I've tried Norton Anti-virus scans and even
tried uninstalling and reinstalling MS Office Professional. Any ideas of how
to make this stop?
 
Uninstall Norton & retest
From Help Menu run a Detect / Repair
Ensure your polling interval is not less than 10 mins
