About a week ago my Windows mail just stopped working. When I try to send &
receive I get the following error message:

Account: 'mail.atdtraffic.com', Server: 'mail.atdtraffic.com', Protocol:
POP3, Server Response: '.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number:
0x800CCC18

It also asks for the user name and password over and over and over. I submit
it and get the same runaround. I need this fixed and no one seems able to
help.

This is exactly the same problem that I have. I've even deleted my account
and re-set it, but this made no difference

What does your service provider say about it? They are the first people to
call. Forums like this should be a last resort.

Hi Sinner,

This doesn't seem to be a service provider issue to me, since it appears to
affect different providers' accounts. I also have the same problem and I am
on Orange.
Any other useful suggestions will be gratefully received.

I'm having the same problems described except I can send e-mails, but not
receive new ones. First time switching to this program and tearing my hair
out. There isn't a thing under "Tools/Account" that I haven't tried. I
think. Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

I had my email quick working a week ago, too. I also get the same error and I
have spent countless hours on the phone with ATT and they are stumped. Any
ideas?

You use AT&T, and access email from atdtraffic.com ?

If you get an error message, please post it here.
right-click on it, select Copy, then paste it into a reply.

They said to try the same things I have found in this forum. Since I found
so many posts with not only the exact same issue, but numerous similar issues
this seemed like a good place to start. It seemed to me that it is a program
issue or perhaps something affecting the program. Microsoft is useless when
you question their programs, so I hoped other ordinary people may have found
a fix.

I also get the same error message. I have to have 2 email accounts- one for
home and one for the office (due to "business account at office) both
accounts are for work.I have contacted my service provider-spent several
hours on the phone with them. I did not have this issue until I installed
IE8. I am running windows vista. Please help- this is killing my business.

That symptom is usually caused by interference from an antivirus
program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
from overly intrusive antivirus programs:
