"send on behalf of" functionality without using Exchange

I have a several customer service reps that need to answer emails from
a community mailbox that is currently only managed by one person
([email protected]).

I would like all users to be able to read what is in the mailbox and
respond to the emails using the same address
([email protected]) so that our customers don't think they
are getting email from unknown parties.

Our network is currently setup in a workgroup and we do not run our
own Exchange server, POP3 email is provided from a third party. We
recently installed an application from CodeTwo software called
PublicFolders in order to share folders/email, but this only solved
part of the problem. It does not allow users to send emails "on behalf
of". We have seen the option of using the "From" field in Outlook but
this also puts the original sending user's name and email address on
the email header. Ideally, only the address that the email was sent to
should be on the response.

is there any chance you can access that group mailbox using IMAP? If so,
add it to each user's profile - when they reply it will use the address for
that mailbox.

I believe I can set them up for IMAP. I will give this a shot and post
