send email via a LAN

I am currently taking city and guilds in networking
diploma and i need to know how to send an Email via LAN
to another computer. First of all I have to set up 4
pc's to enable this, 1 with XP Pro and the others with
98, ME and 2000 Pro and maybe later on 2003 Server. ANY
HELP WILL BE MUCH APPRECIATED.

homework problems. they are usually easy to spot albeit, this OP he's taking course work.
