Send and Receive in Windows mail

I have set up Windows Mail as my client for my POP mail. Running Windows
Vista Home Premium SP1.

It connects and processes in coming and out going mail correctly when I
start the application, however I can not get it to Send and Receive during my
on line session. Clicking Send and Receive All does not work. The only way
to send and receive is to close and re-open the application.

I have checked all the settings, all seems ok.

Any ideas?

Have you set it up to check for any messages every minute?

If not (or to find out):-
Open your Windows Mail and go to *Tools*
Then to *Options*

On the General Tab look down to where it says *send/receive messages*

Is there a tick in *Check for new messages every*?

Mine is set at 1 minute

If you've already set this up please accept my apologies

Many people find that it causes problems to tell it to check for new
messages more often than every 5 minutes. If your checks for new
messages are fast enough, though, you can probably set it for more
often.

Click on Tools, then Accounts. Do this for each of the POP accounts:
Click on the account, then Properties. If there is no check mark in the
box before Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing,
click on this box, then Apply. Click on OK, and go on to the next POP
account if there is one. After the last POP account, click on Close.

Click on Tools, then Options, then Send. If there is no check mark in
the box before Send messages immediately, click on this box, then
Apply. Click on OK.

If the other solutions don't pan out, your Windows Mail may be
affected by a non-compatible antivirus. Which antivirus are you running?

Thanks Gary

No, the others did not help.

I am running PC Tools antivirus Version 4.0.0.26

At least that's not on our list of the antivirus programs that cause
the most problems in Windows Mail. However, for many
antivirus programs, it helps to find an option in the program for
turning off email scanning, and leave it turned off, so you should
check if you have such an option.

That makes the antivirus program take a little longer to find
viruses that come in as part of an email message; it then finds
them when they try to escape from the email message, instead
of before then.

Also, have you ever had a Norton or McAfee antivirus program
on that computer, even a trial version? Their uninstall programs
often fail to remove the parts of these programs that cause
problems in Windows Mail.
