I was waiting on the old sempron price to drop when the sempron 64 would be
introduced. I saw a sempron64 2800 with 256kb of cache (running at 1.6 mhz)
at new egg for $76 for socket 754. the old socket A semprons have gone up
in price ( sempron 2500 was almost $80 and was clocked higher than the
sempron64 2800}

what is going on? how would the sempron 64 at 2800 compare to the athlon 64
at 2800 or athlon xp at 2800?

thanks

Before too long you can get a 64-bit Sempron for $64 with heatsink in a
retail package (online prices).

So it's not really worth sticking with Socket A unless you're broke. In that
case, if you already have a good heatsink, you could get a Duron 1.6 at
newegg.

I no longer want an old sempron. I am just confused by the fact the new
sempron 64 2800 socket 754 costs $76 and the old sempron 2500 for socket A
costs $85 (newegg prices).
something does not add up. I am concernd about the performance.

Oh, I see.

They are discouraging people from getting socket A, apparently. It's a bit
like how old types of memory go through a phase where they become expensive.

Less demand, so higher price, as stock is limited..
