In 2003, you can move objects forward or backward (with a right click)
But i don"t think there is a selection pane as in 2007 where you name
objects or hide them

I have PowerPoint 2007 and a colleague has 2003. In 2007 on the HOM
ribbon there is a Group called Editing. One of Editing's options i
Select - Selection Pane. Here I can see all of the objects on my slid
and I can move them forward or backward as far a layering goes and I ca
View or Hide the objects as well.

I know that I could do this in 2003 but I have forgotten how and fo
the life of me I cannot find it on my colleague's machine.

Can some please shake the cobwebs out of my feeble mind?

You probably mean the "Select multiple objects" feature which was available
in PP2000-2003. You get a list of all objects on a slide by name and you can
easily select/deselect them. But that's all, no renaming etc possible (still
it was rather useful on many occasions).

This feature is hidden in the "Drawing" toolbar (click the little arrow on
the right side of the toolbar and select this feature).
