Selection is locked

When trying to type or use the stylus pen to insert into MS Word the
following error occurs - "This modification is not allowed because the
selection is locked.".

Please advise on how to unlock.

I have tried inputting the Product key and registering MS office, so that
was not the issue.

Did you activate the product? To check this, use the Help menu or, in Word
2007, Office button | Word Options, Resources category.

If Word is in fact activated, try renaming the Normal template with Word
closed (for instructions, see
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/apperrors/blankdocnotblank.htm). Then restart Word
and see if it works properly.
