selection and type behavior different

hey all,
i remember being able to select text and then start typing and what would
happen is the text that was seleted would be deleted and whatever i started
typing would go in its place.

now, when i do this it just removes the selection and starts appeding to the
text.

is there a setting or something that i changed?

Under Tools, Options, Edit, check the "Typing replaces selection" box.
This is for 2003 and prior but if you are using 2007, hopefully it will
point you in the right direction.
