Selecting whole block of text and removing the spaces in between l

Many times when I copy and paste a block of text into Word, there are spaces
between the lines, though there weren't any in the original text. Is there
any way for me to automatically remove these spaces without having to go to
each line hitting backspace to delete the spaces?

Thanks for the response, but I'd also like to know about the space removal
issue for other reasons, beyond just formatting web text. Anyone know if
there's a way to do it?

Did you read the article?
If you use Find/Replace as described with the ^l and ^p these will remove
superfluous paragraph (lines) from your document, whether they be manual line
break (^l) or paragraph marks (^p).

I tried the ^l and ^p thing, but it didn't work. The spaces still remain.
Does it matter that I tried using it on text not copied from the web?

Have you turned on Show Non-Printing Characters (Ctrl-Shift-8) so that
you can see whether your problem is caused by extra paragraphs or line
breaks? If that's not the cause of your problem, then this solution
won't work.

If you _don't_ have extra paragraphs or line breaks, then all you need
to do is select all the paragraphs that have extra space between them,
go to the Format > Paragraph panel (you haven't said what version of
Word you use, so I can't tell you exactly how to do that) and in the
boxes for "Space Before" and "Space After", type 0 (zero).

To avoid this problem in the future, Modify the style(s) you use the
same way.
